How to Choose the Best Packers and Movers (10-Point Checklist)

Stop the guesswork. After working with 6+ packers/movers brands across India, here is the exact 10-point checklist we use when vetting any company for our clients.

The 10-point checklist

1. GST registered with valid GSTIN — verify on gst.gov.in. No GSTIN = no recourse.
2. Years in business — minimum 3 years. Brand-new agencies have no track record.
3. Physical office address — not just a phone number. Visit it if you can.
4. Real Google reviews — 4.0+ rating with 100+ reviews. Beware fake review patterns (all 5-star within a week).
5. Transit insurance — included or available as add-on. Get the policy in writing.
6. Written contract / quotation — printed estimate before booking, signed by both parties.
7. Itemised bill — labour, packing material, transport, GST shown separately. No "lump sum" mystery charges.
8. Their own fleet vs subcontracted — own trucks usually mean better accountability.
9. Manpower count for your move — 2BHK needs 4-5 packers, 3BHK needs 6-7. Underspec = damage risk.
10. Damage / loss policy — what's their claim process? How long does payout take?

Red flags to walk away from

• Asking 50%+ advance in cash with no receipt
• "We'll match any quote" pricing — usually means low-ball with hidden charges later
• Aggressive sales pressure ("book today for 20% off")
• No company email — only a personal mobile number
• Cannot show insurance certificate

What a good experience looks like

A well-run packers/movers company will:

• Send a surveyor to your home (free, no obligation)
• Email you a printed quote within 24 hours
• Take 25-30% advance, balance on delivery
• Send 4-6 trained workers who arrive on time and in uniform
• Pack, label, load, transport, unload, unpack — all the way through
• Settle any damage claim within 30 days
